As seen in Enrique Lacuesta's giraffe oil painting, giraffe are often seen with their heads tucked in a mass of thorn twigs, browsing. Giraffe prefer accacia trees but also eat grass and fruit. Their tongue, lips and palate are tough and so are not damaged by the sharp thorns. An adult giraffe can eat about 65 pounds of leaves and twigs daily.
