Lute Vink Elephant Art

Lute Vink elephant art depicts two African elephants bathing and enjoying water.

A reliable source of water is extemely important for elephants - for drinking and bathing. The trunk is used for drinking - they suck in up to 14 litres each time and then blow it into their mouth. Elephants also suck up water to spray on their body during bathing. Dirt and mud is then sprayed or kicked all over their wet bodies, which dries off and acts as a protective sunscreen and deters parasites.
