Lute Vink lion art features a powerful painting of two lionesses coming face to face with a white rhino.
Lionesses do most of the hunting. Male pride lions do not usually participate in hunting except occasionally in the case of larger quarry such as giraffe and buffalo. Lone male lions or nomadic males unattached to a pride must hunt for themselves.
Lionesses hunt in open spaces so employ a co-operative hunting method which increases their success rate. Teamwork also enables lionesses to defend their kills against other large predators such as hyenas. In typical hunts, each lioness has a particular position in the group, either stalking prey on the 'wing' then attacking, or acting as back-up, capturing prey fleeing from the other lionesses.
