Roy Brooks art includes African wildlife works in oils, pastel and pencil and watercolours.

Roy Brooks

Born in 1942 in Pretoria, South Africa, Roy had an interest in art from an early age. With no formal training at school, he completed an apprenticeship as a Commercial Artist in Durban. In 1960 he started painting, mainly in oils. He joined a local art group and exhibited at the amphitheatre on the beach front. In 1968 and 1969 he exhibited at Art in the Park, in Pietermaritzburg. He moved to Johannesburg in 1970 and joined the Artist Market and exhibited at Joubert Park yearly. He studied fine art under Sidney Goldblatt and held one man exhibitions in Springs, Benoni and Edenvale. He exhibits regularly at local art galleries, and Art Associations. He ran a design studio for 17 years and for the past 20 years he has worked in and taught fine art.

In New York, in 1998 he received an award for Outstanding Achievement in Mixed Media.

In 2002 he received the Ekurhuleni Mayoral Achievers Award for Fine Art.

In 2007 he was runner up winner in a design competition at the South African Mint.

Works in private and corporate collections: UK, Germany, Italy, France, Japan, USA, Palace of the Lost City and South Africa.
