Roy Brooks wild dog art features a work in pastels of the increasingly rare African wild dog.

African wild dog populations are threatened by human population encroachment and habitat loss. It needs very large territories and it is strongly affected by competition with larger carnivores that rely on the same prey, particularly the lion and the hyena. Lions will often kill wild dogs when they get the chance but do not eat them.
